I have two questions. I'm wondering 1. if google will allow me to write a program which will, making use of an API, send hundreds, even thousands of queries to its search page to find how many hits a word or phrase gets. (I'll wait 5 seconds between each query so as not to swamp the search page). Do I need special permission to do this? And some kind of account (username and password)? 2. Also, I'm wondering if any google API will allow me to search for words using something like the Altavista NEAR command. For example in Altavista, the search query 'cats NEAR dogs' will only return webpages in which the words 'cats' and 'dogs' appear within 10 or so words of each other.
