Supreme Court will hear challenge to age verification for porn access
Supreme Court will hear appeal to Texas' age verification requirements
for commercial porn site access. Similar laws are in place in various
other states. The issue isn't really porn -- there are innumerable
places to access such material openly around the world without logins
or payments of any kind -- it's the "camel's nose under the tent" that
already has occurred with states passing laws (in litigation)
requiring age verification for access to social media -- and then
later you can bet for access to "any material inappropriate for
children" (however any individual politician wants to define this).
Age verification systems are a tracking trap, and ripe for privacy and
security disasters (a major age verification firm was reported just a
few days ago to have had a data breach, by the way).
Remember, to do age verification, EVERYBODY of ANY age must be
verified through government credentials or the like. Just like in
China. Which is what politicians in both parties seem to be pushing
for here. -L
