I am having the same problem when trying to "shop" and upload prints (I intend to upload to Snapfish). This feature used to work as I have used it extensively in the past, but as of 5/16/2009 it is no longer working for me. I am using Ubuntu 8.04, Firefix 3.0.8 and Picasa 3.0 beta. I also don't get an error message, but just a blank Picasa screen. Hopefully someone on the Picasa project will look into it and update us.
