I have tried digikam, but ended up returning to Picasa because
digikams interface seems unpolished and complicated. It may have lots
of bells and whistles, but I'm not a pro. Digikam would be a lot
better if a graphics/design expert/artist worked over its look and
feel. Picasa and Shotwell have simplicity, clean fresh look (that aids
productivity) and I get what I want done much faster. In fact the
Picasa "I'm Feeling Lucky" button is one I often use. I found the
equivalent button on Shotwell in a few seconds. I still haven't found
it on digiKam. When I pull up a photo to edit in digikam, the program
fonts are dorky, it draws an edit window much wider than my photo. I
can't find the edit functions quickly and easily, I even had to hunt
for the edit button. Picasa and Shotwell have the magic look and feel,
usability. That may be because I am a light user.

Shotwell also works with picasaweb online albums, the one I use, as
well as flickr and facebook.

DigiKam appears to default to overwriting the original photo file if
you make an edit! Picasa and shotwell preserve the original in
original form by default. Being amateur makes for regretful edits.
