ahh a different sort of solution
I had found a download, but was/am in dependency hell
since gnome2 is not much longer for this world [on distros I'm willing to
use] I'm using KDE, which seems to present other problems for some of the
ways I'm used to doing things

the picasa photo manager tool I miss the most is the ability to scroll
through all my file without jumping from folder to folder

I have a few Google accounts, some with picasa webAlbums & some with G+
I can pull pics to both, which avoids the sign-in madness that trying to
push from picasamanager [pm] can cause

though it would be interesting to learn how to copy a working version of PM
& get it working on a different machine, I'm not sure
The Juice is worth the squeeze :D
after having a look around, I wouldn't bet on the future of Picasa on any OS
G+ is the future
