Tried various solutions unsuccessfully. Finally landed on the easiest method, this was to close Picasa 3, create a directory on the Desktop page say "Feb 2015" Copy the just the photos off the SD card into this directory.
Move this directory into your photo directory and restart Picasa 3 which will then pick up this new directory and its photos.
