Thanks for replying. I ended up just making my polyline class the
controller for a real Polyline and it all works ok, just means there's
a little bit of special casing when i'm adding things to the view, but
it's no biggie.

That got my old code to compile - haven't had a chance to see if it
would have worked yet tho. Amusingly, with the 1.7 API, i get warnings
saying those methods have been deprecated; however if i remove them
then the code doesn't compile at all :).
