I'm also interesed in this, perhaps it can be achieved with LatLngBounds?

Maybe checking containsLatLng() or
getEast()<http://code.google.com/intl/es-AR/apis/maps/documentation/flash/reference.html#LatLngBounds.getEast>,
etcetera methods could help.
