The Flash API is slightly more flexible (no pun intended) than the Javascript version.
I believe that using MarkerOptions.fillStyle and MarkerOptions.radius could solve your problem, depending on your usage case. I'm not very familiar with the MapIconMaker, but it appears Pamela wrote it? She could possibly port it to actionscript if need be. Again, I think the current MarkerOptions however supports this customization of markers.
