Displaying a large amount of data on a google map is a bit of a
technical challenge.
It can certainly be done but  if you just need an occasional report
shaded by zip code or census tract building a web app might be
overkill.  Granted, these products are very limited in their
customization and web apps definitely scale better for groups.
In any case I would definitely recommend doing a quick pattern
analysis as part of the design process for a web app.

If you have the points geocoded you could easily throw them
Map Window:  (free but a bit complicated)

or
MapPoint Desktop ($200 and easy to use / export to excel)
