Hi VVV-

You are always required to show the Google logo in the corner, and the
copyrights for any of our map data shown. (So if you're not showing
our map data, likely only the Google logo will appear).

If you have the region data, then you could create a MapType of solid
colored tiles and render the countries and regions with polygons over
that.

There are various tile and poly related demos in the gallery (and an
article about rendering country polys in the articles section).
