Actually the problem is not the google maps api itself, but flash player.
Try instead of loading an external swf with the map, to construct it as a
class.
My problem solved this way

I've got the same problem and more specific, i am loading an external
swf with my map (actually i am using the simpe map tutorial) and when
i resize the root swf inside flash
it crashes (Flash CS4), when i resize the map swf it works perfect.
I've noticed that when i am resizing my window flash player uses 1.2
GB of memory!
