I read the eriestuff.blogspot previously and that was why I originally considered re-writing the code in php. But, I never knew that mySQL had spatial capabilities! I think that using the mysql functions will be easiest. I already have tables with the lat longs and I can easily build a table with the polygons. As I understand it, I can use MBRContains to test if the point is in the polygon.
