I can't find the example I did with this included right now but I
basically just used the flex ProgressBar and wrapped up the map in a
canvas that I center the progress bar in or other controls that aren't
related directly to any sort of lat/lng coordinates but rather are
overlaid on top of the map.
<mx:Canvas>
<maps:Map .../>
<mx:ProgressBar visible="{isShowingProgress}"/>
</mx:Canvas>
is their anything wrong with this approach? then in your data click or
whatever triggers the lookup handler you set isShowingProgress true
and in the result/fault handler set it to false.
