Hi goofybnu, Inter FX is right on about the Google maps API, tiles are served dynamically based on the current center lat/lng and zoom level and stealing these tiles (aka scraping) is strongly frowned upon (and illegal... or at least a violation of the terms at a minimum, also according to the TOS if you don't have a license the app must be publicly accessible for no fee). However there is an app for android that has offline maps that I've used occasionally, perhaps looking into how they've generated/received the data is a direction you can take: http://www.appbrain.com/app/locus-free/menion.android.locus it appears for offline maps they employed this solution: http://mapbox.com/#/
