Open Google Earth, if you don't have it, then go download and install it. 
 Once you have it opened/installed, along the top you will find a button 
called create polygon.  Click it, enter a title, some information in the 
description and then draw a polygon on the map.  Now look in "My Places". 
 Find your polygon, right click it, and choose, "Save as..."  You can save 
this to your Desktop.  Close GE, go to your Desktop and open the file with a 
text editor, I suggest Notepad++.

When you have it opened, you see that KML, is very similar to XML, but you 
will see the structure that is required for the KML to be Google 
sufficient...
