The radius of the Earth is different from pole to pole.

Also the Earth is not round. It is spherical.

Using radius and geometry you can get the arc distance instead of a straight
distance between two points.

As for the Mercator Projection, it is only a flat map representation with
global co-ordinates.
You would need to show me the formula and demonstrate where or how you are
getting the radius for the particular geolocation.
