Whilst I agree it is going away (it is deprecated after all), and it
is backward looking to develop anything “new” in this API what about
those of us who have applications already developed in this API?
Specifically, our office has a fair amount of vested time in our Flash
GM applications, and like most developers we commonly reuse
significant amounts of code in other systems we develop.

Sure, we will be moving to JavaScript API, but for our primary users
(IE8, which our office is in the process of moving too just now) the
flash API still has significant benefits (i.e. hundreds of polygon
rendering and interacting with the user quickly). Therefore we plan
on changing our systems over to the JavaScript API when a critical
mass of our user base were running a capable browser (e.g. IE9), so we
are effectively 1.5+ years off changing.

Subsequently we need to access new API keys also.

The move to remove the ability to get the API is more than deprecating
the Flash API it’s rapidly killing it off (we haven’t even hit 6
months from deprecation announcement and there is an active attempt to
remove the use of this API). Not great for us who followed Google’s
API and developed applications around it; now we can’t even re-use our
code for a temporary stop-gap application for a particular user type.

Please Google allow us still to get these keys—at least until the last
year of the official 3 year deprecation period.
