Hmm. In the UK it's not usually legal to ride bikes through a
pedestrian area. There are normally "No vehicles" signs at each end
rather than "No motor vehicles". However this does indicate that a
fair degree of local knowledge is needed in order to get it right for
different modes of transport. [There are certainly contra-flow cycle
lanes where bikes can legally go the wrong way down a one-way street,
for example]

Something like Mark McClure's utility at
http://facstaff.unca.edu/mcmcclur/GoogleMaps/EncodePolyline/tracker.html
allows point-and-click plotting of routes and on-the-fly encoding,
which (a) *slightly* protects your data (b) decreases page-load time.
