The key is specific to the URL and the Google account it was created for. If the site no longer belongs to you, you should remove your key from the source code and ask the new owner to get their own. This is so that if Google should take a dislike to something and disable an account, they don't disable *your* account and all its maps. If you can't do that, you might be well advised to get a new Google account and renew all your other keys. There is no central register of keys. All it does is make sure that the API in use on a particular site is tied to a particular Google account. Deleting a key is simply a matter of no longer using it.
