apologies for posting in the wrong place. That was exactly what I
needed. The first suggestion worked perfectly. Therefore, to place a
marker at a geocoordinate with a marker and custom label only using a
URL (such that it displays the label nicely on the iPhone!) is as
follows:

http://maps.google.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED],-0.227721
