I'd be the first to admit that wheresthepath is many month's worth of
hobby-style, write-once, author-only-read code!
I think that the ability to nest FeatureCollections would be a useful
addition to GeoJson.
I updated the Gpx2GeoJson converter last night to properly load
escaped parameterised GPX url's like this
original url
http://www.southwestcoastpath.com/main/walks/index.cfm?fsa=dspWalkGPSDownload&w_id=1&type=pathsection
Gpx2GeoJson request (simply a standard 'escape' of the original url).
http://gpx2geojson.appspot.com/?gpxurl=http%3A//www.southwestcoastpath.com/main/walks/index.cfm%3Ffsa%3DdspWalkGPSDownload%26w_id%3D1%26type%3Dpathsection&mime=text/plain
Once a GPX file is cached up on an Appspot server, getting the GeoJson
is pretty snappy.
Also from last night, on wheresthepath, after pressing 'Import' for an
http: url in the GPX Text Area, the necessary 'escaped' url parameter
to use as a wheresthepath url parameter is displayed for the user to
copy
Yes KML/GML could be imported too. Plenty more UI tweaks are possible.
I am not looking to build a community GPS repository.
And yes the site does work very well in Chrome, especially in a thin
frame from a saved application shortcut but no Google Earth Plugin for
Chrome yet :(
