Sorting out the the placement of the JavaScript code as Mike
suggested
fixed the IE problems but the page is still not rendering the text
lines and
step distances in a friendly manner
All combinations of overflow  have been tried.
I know the responsibility for coding this page lies here, but this
needs alternatives
and suggestions.
