I hope that this is the right place to post my request. I can find no other way of submitting it and I know Google Maps developers monitor this list. I'm pretty sure this hasn't already been brought up here, and I've checked the FAQs!
I've noticed that the iPhone Maps app uses the default distance units of the road network in your current country (e.g. miles in UK, kilometres in France), and that it's not possible to override this via the iPhone's Region Format settings (even though the language used for directions *is* affected). It would be useful (for me, anyway) to have an option to manually select kilometres or miles in Maps. I know the primary function is for driving, and that for some reason we're still stuck with miles in the UK, but there are still reasons why one might want metric display in the UK: Firstly, fuel here is priced per litre, and car fuel consumptions are now officially quoted in L/100 km. So you have to convert miles to kilometres to work out how much fuel you can expect to use on a given journey. Secondly, there are lots of vehicles from continental Europe on UK roads. All these vehicles' odometers display km rather than miles, so their drivers need segment distances in km to keep track of the distance to the next turn. And thirdly... I''m in my mid-thirties and, like everyone else in this country of my age or younger, was taught in metric. I'd like to be able to use it! I note that maps.google.com allows the user to display distances in km even for UK or US journeys, so it would be nice and consistent if iPhone Maps provided this option as well. Thank you for your consideration. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
