Ok, we are working on a map to display traffic congestion and
incidents for an area in Illinois.

The solution we came up with was an WMS overlay (for the congestion
segments) on Google maps plus google markers (for the incidents/etc).
Every two minutes, the markers are refreshed via an ajax poll, and
then the WMS overlay is refreshed.

The complaint we have received is that if the page is brought up and
remains open in the background for a very long time, IE eventually
produces a 'out of memory' error. So, there's a memory leak somewhere
that's affecting IE. On my machine, I've never managed to get it to
the 'out of memory' error.

I identified possible places for the memory leak to be occuring:
1. protoype's Ajax.PeriodicUpdater
2. Google's overlay refresh
3. Google's marker manager

The problematic page is:

In Drip, I can see a memory leak that starts after a some time and
then steadily grows worse.

First, I turned off the Ajax poll with PeriodicUpdater and set up a
timer to refresh just the congestion segments every 2 minutes. That
page is located here:
http://www.lakecountypassage.com/index3.html
Monitoring that page doesn't show any leaking.

So, I turned back on the Ajax poller and congestion refresh via that
poller, but turned off markermanager.

Maybe there's a very slow leak, but it's nothing compared to the
original page over time.

Does marker manager have a known leak problem? Is there any way to
improve my mm code to address it? I am using marker manager because
they want different icon sizes at different zoom levels--is there
another solution to the issue?

Thanks,
Deirdre
