Sounds like it: that does seem rather high! Do you have any
information on what the queries are? I would strongly recommend
implementing something of what John suggested. My earlier response was
about the security of your database, not about limiting access to your
data. A limit on queries per day per IP address should be effective;
and you could even whitelist some IP addresses if you felt so
inclined.
