GPolygon already has a method to get the bounds for the polygon:
GPolygon.getBounds() and you can set the zoom level for the map to
contain the bounds: GMap2.getBoundsZoomLevel(bounds) so you don't have
to do any fancy footwork!!!

Unfortunately he doesn't have the polygon for Berlin or Paris! ;-(

Mike's solution might have to be the best approach!
