Do you mean Java, or Javascript? Anyway, the same thing happens with UK postcodes. That's due to licensing restrictions. Canadian postcodes may behave that way either because of similar licensing restrictions, or because the geocoder simply returns the first half regardless of which country it's in (instead of only doing that for the UK). There are lots and lots of threads on UK postcodes.
