Hi everyone,
during some tests with the Google geocoder, I noticed a really strange
behaviour.

Since I'm Italian I noticed it for Italian addresses (I can't say what
happen for the other countries): the names of regions are not
localised in a unique language and I can't understand which is the
logic behind it.

Please look at these examples (you can use the sample page:
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/examples/geocoding-ext...)

1a) Search for "Roma"
Address retrieved: Roma, Rom (Latium), Italy
WRONG: the name of the region is LAZIO not LATIUM. (Is it in Latin?)

1b) Search for "Roma, Lazio"
Address retrieved: Roma, Rom (Lazio), Italia --> CORRECT

2a) Search for "Firenze"
Address retrieved: Firenze, Firenze (Toscane), Italia
WRONG: the name of the region is ToscanA not ToscanE. (Is it in
English?)

2b) Search for "Firenze, Toscana"
Address retrieved: Firenze, Firenze (Toscana), Italia --> CORRECT

3a) Search for "Trieste"
Address retrieved: Trieste, Trieste (Friaul-Julisch-Venetien), Italia
WRONG: the name of the region is FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA, not FriAUL-
JULISCH-VENETIEN. (Is it in German?)

3b) Search for "Trieste, Friuli"
Address retrieved: Trieste, Trieste (Friuli-Venezia Giulia), Italia --

> CORRECT

What do you think? This behaviour is really strange, since I expected
that the geocoder retrieved the original address for each place in the
native language. I tried to set the base country code but the result
is
the same...

Any help would be really appreciated.

Best regards,
Romano
