Thanks John, got it. Looks like that will work great when it's out! I am surprised that it is a new feature. Virtual Earth has had this for some time, and in fact the VE geocoder/API is set up by default to return an extent. I hope this feature comes soon as I am under the gun to deliver parallel demo geocoding apps (one in GM the other in VE). The VE one was done in 11 minutes! I am still struggling with GM however, but am confident that the Google team with deliver, as usual!
