Google Maps (and GGeoXML) have been doing this for a long time (for
over a year)

The thing about this is its not documented, nor configurable.

To make it worse its doing on jpg icon images too. I just serve 0
bytes 404's for these urls.

I guess it should be added to the issue tracker (cant see it from a quick look)


(the ads are a general feature of Maps now)
