The API is CONSTANTLY evolving and changing. Since you don't provide any link to your site its quite hard to know whats the issue in your case.
The most likely however is that you are using old version 1 syntax, some recent changes inadvertently broke compatibility. See: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/upgrade.html >From that page: "This documentation describes how to upgrade from Version 1 of the Google Maps API to Version 2, launched on April 3, 2006. If you developed your site before April 3, 2006, you should follow the instructions in this document to update your site to use the most recent version of the API." However many people have continued to create new stuff after that time, either from copy/pasting from old examples or sites, or from coping from out of date books. Google don't support the v1 compatibility mode, but its provided as a courtesy, and as time goes on its more likely to break.
