I also compared the two servers: http://mt0.google.cn/mt?v=cn1.5&hl=en& VS http://mt1.google.com/mt?v=ap.86&hl=en& and while the mt1.google.com has some limited english in the areas surrounding Shanghai, the mt0.google.cn has more recent, updated maps of the area i'm in (although both only have chinese for those areas) Given the propensity for streets and roads to change here (it's madness i tells ya!) and since i won't get english anyway, i think i'm going to stick with the chinese servers, but it's really nice to have the options.
