Try using the transparent png version of that image:
http://maps.google.it//mapfiles/ms/micons/police.png
You're currently using
http://maps.google.it//mapfiles/ms/micons/police.white.png
which has a white background (probably used for the My Maps sidebar).
Also, this isn't going to work:
icon.imageMap =
'http://maps.google.it//mapfiles/ms/micons/police.white.png';
because imageMap needs to be an array of numbers.
