That's because your map div has position absolute.

Your "Text below map" is displayed in the line immediately following 
"Text above map", but there's an opaque map placed on top of it.

I suggest using this method to display "height:95%" maps
   http://econym.org.uk/gmap/basic19.htm
Which not only fixes the "Text below map" but also makes the map itself 
be visible in MSIE, which doesn't happen if you do it your way.
