Now that Google has relaxed its Terms of Service for the API to allow free desktop applications -- assuming the legal ambiguities are cleared up -- I have been thinking about the possibilities that opens up. I can think of several possible applications that would entail reading and writing from the local file system, and/or database connection, in conjunction with the API.
But since the API is Javascript-based, and Javascript wants to execute inside a browser with attendant security restrictions, I am wondering what the best options are. I suppose a local app could include a wrapper around an embedded browser. I have looked at Windows HTA, but it is pretty limited. Windows Scripting Host will run Javascript, but I don't see how it would have access to the Google API library. Has anyone thought of a good generalized platform for developing such local applications? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
