I've known for a long time that google maps geocoding service has a US bias concerning cities with ambigious names.
For instance 'brisbane' is geocoded as San Francisco, not QLD, AUS. Johannasburg is geocoded in Minnesota, not South Africa. I thought this was just something that would have to be lived with and I have been trying to correct it in my data as much as I can. But then I came across Geonames.org which resolves the ambiguity (I assume) by using population size. I am pretty sure that this is very effective, and would be great to see in the maps api. Is there any way of doing this right now? Have I missed something? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
