The underlying problem is that the API can't open the info window on a 
marker that's not currently addOverlayed() to any of your maps, because 
it doesn't have a reference from the marker to the associated map.

There's a similar problem with (G)MarkerManager, and the workround for 
that should work with any type of clusterer. See the last section of 
this page:
