What I do is take advantage of the fact that there is only one info
window, and whenever the info window opens, copy the (local) marker
reference into a global variable.

GEvent.addListener(marker,"click",function() {
lastMarker = marker;
marker.openInfoWindowHtml( ...
onclick='lastMarker.setImage(\"images/test.png\")' ... );
});
