You were right. We had forgotten to remove the fixed map URL, as we were
doing some tests in October..because for some regions, we wanted to use our
own map tiles and for some other places, the tiles had to be from google..so
we always use custom map tiles ...and this custom layer reads from our
server or from google depending on the coordinates...

The link you provided was also a good solution for us.
