Actually I found more interesting things regarding this. Google Maps current ToS states: "10. License Restrictions....you must not ... 10.8 use the Static Maps API other than in an implementation in a web browser; ". So this should mean that you cannot use google maps in any way in a mobile, not even on WAP. Or, maybe Wap browser can be taken as mobile web browser?
Anyway, this is actually good news for me, as I can get more users of our own J2ME mobile mapping library :) We use by default openstreetmap maps (you can use other sources too) which are free to use, including usage in the mobile. However, some our corporate customers are using Google premier maps package in web, so they'd like to see similar maps in mobile also, but as far as I understand then this is not possible in any way, even if you try to pay for it.
