There's no facility on Google Maps, but the same imagery is used in 
Google Earth, and in that program the image date is now displayed in the 
status bar.

Make sure that the status bar is switched on using the View menu, then 
zoom in until you can see the fence.

I don't know if a Google Earth snapshot would hold up in court, but if 
you then switch on Layers:More:Digital_Globe_Coverage, and 
Layers:More:SpotImage if the image was obtained from Digital Globe or 
Spot, you can see the actual date and obtain the image ID. You can also 
obtain the IDs and see previews of DG and Spot images that were not 
incorporated into Google Maps. I suspect the DG/Spot image would hold up 
in court, but they're not cheap.
