Yes, we should get some good news of some sort in the next Budget in
March 2009.

This is most likely because:

* The sheer number of people using Google Maps in the UK, and the
probability that the majority are technically breaking OS Crown
Copyright in doing so.
* The embarrassment to the government of major projects such as the
Met Police's crime maps being technically against OS Crown Copyright
because they use Google Maps API.
* The regular frustration of anyone wishing to share UK-based location
data that has had even the slightest whiff of OS mapping, including
government departments.
* The growing complaints from Local Authorities who have to pay tens
of thousands per annum to OS to be allowed to use their own (OS-
derived) data.
* The growing usefulness of OpenStreetMap: UK location data is no
longer only available from OS.
