If the "load" event doesn't fire, the "error" event should fire.

Try listening for the "error" event and see what error code is being 
returned. That will give you a big clue about whether the problem is 
with your parameters, or with your GDirections quotas, or something 
else.

If you don't get an "error" event, check your router/firewall/etc to see 
if you're blocking communications with the directions server.
