My Goal: allow users to save an image of the Google Map that is embedded in my webpage. The user selects from many possible overlay images (custom data imagery as PNG to be made available to public), the overlay is shown on the map and I then need user to be able to save the image to their computer.
Problem: the Google Maps API does not provide "convert to static image" functionality, and I am having trouble coming up with a way to do it myself in an OS/browser independent way and without telling the user "hey, if you're on ______ OS, do a screen capture or print to file like ______." My best hope so far was to use the Google Static Maps API, but including a custom GGroundOerlay and/or GScreenOverlay is not appear to be supported (as far as I can tell). Please tell me that I'm wrong!! Legal Issues Since most posts on this topic seem stunted by the legal topic (the Legal Notice, Terms of Use and Terms of Service for the API mention restrictions on making copies), I want to mention that I have read them over and it seems that as long as no fees are charged for any distributed items that all is fine. The other clause being that no more than 5,000 copies of sales material be printed. We have no reason to assume our users would print anything other than for their personal use. No sales. No fees. No marketing. A big thanks for any info. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
