This is a very bizarre problem that has plagued me for a few weeks
now. During building of a Maps API demo, the map will always be
misaligned within the containing DIV tag. Judging from the overview in
the lower righthand corner, Maps believes that point (0,0) inside my
div tag is the center of the map. This oddity continues until I resize
my browser window (including opening/closing Firebug), at which point
the map recalibrates its centerpoint to the correct alignment.
Project background: Because I am using jQuery, I needed to incorporate
this map code into my ""$(document).ready(function() {}); "" instead
of <body onload="">. I'm using the jmaps plugin now, but the problem
existed when I was using normal maps code in javascript. This problem
also existed before I started using the jQuery UI plugin, so the in-
page draggable window isn't the likely problem.
To recreate the problem, simply drag and drop the "Google Map" blue
rectangle onto the giant gray rectangle (the drop zone), loading the
API inside a jQuery UI dialog. To recreate the remedy, simply resize
your window in any way.
I am using Windows XP Pro SP3 (32 bit) on an HP Compaq dc5750
Microtower with AMD Athalon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+, 2.59 GHz,
1.87GB of RAM.
This problem occurs in all browsers I have tested (Firefox 3.0.5,
Chrome 1.0.154.36, Opera 9.61, and Safari 4.0.528.1.1 (beta)). IE
won't even load the UI window upon drag and drop, and I can't remember
if it had this bug in my pre-UI version.
