I noticed that in the regular google maps there is some red text
(leaving toll zone in 1.7miles - step 1):

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=london&daddr=manchester&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=12.061542,39.550781&ie=UTF8&ll=51.503133,-0.14883&spn=0.02479,0.077248&z=14

Does anyone know of a way to access this information in the API.
Specifically we want to know whether a route falls into a toll zone or
not so we can display an icon.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Robert
