I don't see any problems in Opera 9.

I recommend outputting a message if your GBrowserIsCompatible() check 
fails, so that people running old versions of Opera, or anything else 
incompatible, are given a clue about why they don't see any maps.

The compatibility check is now performed in the Google Server, so I 
can't see the details. Back when the check was performed in the browser, 
Opera 7 and above were considered to be compatible.
