Right, as Andy already said. I'm currently evaluating FME, it's very powerful, but expensive, I guess... With FME the conversion of SQL 2008 spatial data to a big range of output formats, including tiles and KML, is possible. There is also a SHP2KML, very smart, very simple and efficient. But unfortunately it converts ArcView shapes to KML only (http://www.zonums.com/software/download.php?id=SHP2KML).
