On my site I'm using Ajax to load the content of the infowindow when a marker is clicked. Check it out on http://www.archill.net/kaart.php and click one of the dots. When a marker is clicked a xmlhttp request is send to a PHP script mapxml.php that in turn returns a bit of XML containing the content of the infowindow. See the function HandleClick () in map.js on my site.
